Move more, sit less. Physical activity helps to control blood pressure, prevent heart disease and stroke. Go swimming or dancing or walking.

Cut back on salt. Sodium has been linked to high blood pressure, stroke, and heart attack. Add more fiber and eat less sugar/salt to control your blood sugar.

Volunteer. Being of service to someone else is rewarding and brings joy.

Beat loneliness. Call someone and have a chat. Make a lunch date. Visit with friends.

Follow an old or a new passion. Paint, read, write, join a club.

Get a pet and walk.

Control stress. Quit making “to-do” lists. Slow down, Take a trip, go back to school. Develop new hobbies.

Have periodic eye exams: Yearly for people over 50.

Maintain a Healthy Weight. Obesity increases the risk of diabetes and other conditions such as vision loss and glaucoma.

Wear protective eyewear: Sun shades, wide brim hats.

Stop smoking. Smoking can cause macular degeneration, cataract, optic nerve damage.

Eat healthy diets. Fruits and vegetables contain nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that ward off age-related vision problems.
